penny racer s
Racing / Driving, up to 4 players, published by: THQPenny Racers is the Pokemon of racing games for the GBA. The task is to head out through the game's championship mode, winning challenges and earning cash. Every time you place first, second, or third in any given race, you'll earn money which can be used to purchase better parts for your vehicle. It actually forces you to build up on your vehicle by making certain tracks impossible to win without the needed car upgrades. For example, you'll need to buy dirt tyres when the game starts going over the mud, or wet slicks when water enters the challenge...try to play these tracks without the needed parts, and you'll helplessly trail behind in fifth place.

Import-savvy fans will recognize Penny Racers as the domesticated version of Takaras Choro-Q 64. Basically the N64 addition to the Choro-Q series, which originally made famous on the PlayStation, revolves around a slew of wacky superdeformed cars and trucks that, naturally enough, are all trying to get to the finish line first. Duh! Penny Racers attempts to improve on this "concept" by adding four-player racing to the mix. Does it match up, or surpass, the previous installments of its 32-bit counterpart? Hardly.
Sure, the cars and tracks found on the PlayStation were cartoony enough, but the graphical complexity found in Penny Racers sinks to a new low. Simpler than even Mario 64 or Pilotwings, Penny Racers makes Mario Kart 64 look like Sonic Adventure. Bland, color-by-number track design offers little in the way of detail, and the complete lack of light sourcing and the generally slow pace of the game give Penny Racers an anemic visual impression at best. Perhaps the most aggravating thing is that the cars (which are simple, low-poly-count designs) still have the blocky, non-anti-aliased look of the PlayStation version. Surely with all the power of the N64, the cars could have been made to look a touch better?

Perfect piece of kit! |

I directly disagree with the previous reviewer. I bought this cable to link my GBA with my GBA games to a friend or relatives. If I wanted to use my GBC games I would use my already purchased link cable for the GBC. The lack of compatibility between the two is not important considering most people who have GBC and want to play multiplier games already have a link cable for that purpose. By buying Nintendo youre also buying reliability and guaranteed compatibility. I advise you not to buy a 3rd person link cable as they have been known to go down when playing single cart multi-player games. Anyway this cable is a beauty and works without fault.

Official Option is Not Good Enough |
The official link cable from Nintendo does everything it claims to be able to do - link two game boy advanceds for the purpose of multiplayer gaming. Great. Why am I only giving this one star? One of the big selling points of the GBA is the compatability of original or GBColour carts and this cable DOES NOT allow 2 player gaming on these carts. To do that you need a GBColour cable. A dreadful oversight or a strategy from Nintendo to make us spend more money? You decide. However, should you want to only have one cable which does both may I recommend the Blaze one which has the hub for four players and a switch to convert between GBA and GBC. Its also less expensive.

A little piece of magic! |
|
The link cable allows 4 players to play on just one game. It may have less options and worse graphics, but still is more fun than anything ever seen on a handheld. Youll love whipping your mates, anytime, anywhere, its fantastic. Just two words to describe it, buy, now.
